Every year in the UK, thousands of people die in accidents. Many of these deaths could be prevented if first aid was administered whilst waiting for the emergency services to arrive.
Preventing unnecessary deaths – how you can help;
If someone is injured the first thing you need to do is check that they are not in and danger and if they are make it safe. When it is safe to do so call the emergency services on 999 or 112 and ask for an ambulance. Then carry out basic first aid on the casualty.
If someone is unconscious but is still breathing and has no other life threatening conditions, then they need to be place in the recovery position as soon as possible and then monitored until the emergency services arrive.
If however the casualty is not breathing, first you need to call for an ambulance and then start CPR straight away. You should only stop CPR if you are too tried to continue or if someone has taken over from you.
Not sure how to apply a bandage properly, or roll someone onto the recovery position or perform CPR? Then book yourself onto one of our training courses with the National School of First Aid Training and help in the preventing of unnecessary deaths.
