About our Forest Schools First Aid course

The Forest Schools First Aid course is totally integrated with the Forest School ethos, rationale and the unique professional requirements of Forest School workers. It is based on the 16 hour Outdoor First Aid course but tailored towards Forest School leaders.

The requirements for Forest School first aid can be met by completing an Outdoor First Aid course. However many groups prefer or require specialist and tailored training involving infants for instance, with a tailored, contextualised approach to content often mixing elements of infant/child/adult training as determined by the group. This training course is designed to provide that flexibility. The content reflects the unique environments in which you work, and the challenges that you can face. It is the course of choice for the professional Forest School practitioner, who wants a custom course designed around their craft and their profession.

In its Guidance note – First Aid for Forest School, the Forest School Association (FSA) strongly recommends that a Level 3 qualified Forest School Practitioner holds a current first aid qualification as covered in the Institute for Outdoor Learning (IOL) statement of good practice for Outdoor First Aid at Band 3. This course meets the criteria laid out. This course would also meet the criteria laid out for Level 2 and Level 1 qualified Forest School Assistants.

Paediatric First Aid

For a small extra charge per person this course can also cover the content needed for the 12 hour Paediatric First Aid Certificate allowing students to gain this Ofsted / EYFS compliant qualification as well. This needs to be arranged at time of Booking.

Instructors

Our Instructors come from a range of professional and voluntary backgrounds such as:

  • emergency services (ambulance, police and fire service)
  • military (medics)
  • outdoor professionals (Mountain leaders)
  • Community Responders
  • Experienced First Aiders

We aim to match instructors to your specific training requirements. They are aware of the specific needs of various outdoor environments, fully understanding the problems and judgements that have to be made when dealing with incidents in stressful, dangerous and remote situations.

Training

Our training is very practical and hands on. We do not rely upon the usual ‘death by PowerPoint’, instead we use progressive incident scenario based training methods. Our courses teach techniques proven to work in real life incidents and not just in a classroom. Our training builds confidence and develops first aid skills into complete incident management.
