Basic Life Support

The 3 hour Basic Life Support course is great for any person or group who require basic lifesaving first aid but cannot commit to a full day of training. It can also be extended with Bespoke topics for groups such as Clubs and Societies.

Basic Life Support is a 3 hour course that covers the essentials of First Aid. It is suitable for learners that do not need a Workplace or Paediatric course. Typical uses might be for a Club or Society. It can be extended in time to add some Bespoke elements in (e.g. soft tissue injuries or head injuries). See ‘Bespoke Courses‘ for more information.

Learners must demonstrate competency to be awarded the 3-year Certificate. We can also deliver an Awareness course (with a Certificate valid for 1 year) if the group make-up is such that (for example) kneeling and lying on the floor would be an issue and they just want an overall understanding. Core syllabus

Candidates should be able to demonstrate their competency in:

Assessing a situation to act safely, promptly and effectively in any emergency
Unconscious casualty management including Epilepsy
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for a non-breathing casualty
Use of a Defibrillator
Choking first aid for a casualty with a blocked airway

If required we can discuss any relevant first aid updates including legislation and updated best practices

Instructors

Our trainers come from a range of professional backgrounds such as the emergency services, the military and outdoor professionals. We aim to match instructors to your specific training requirements. They are aware of the specific needs of various outdoor environments, fully understanding the problems and judgements that have to be made when dealing with incidents in stressful, dangerous and remote situations. Training

Our training is very practical and hands on with a typically 70% practical to just 30% theory. Our courses do not rely upon the usual ‘death by PowerPoint’, instead we use progressive incident scenario based training methods. Our courses teach techniques proven to work in real life incidents and not just in a classroom. Our training builds confidence and develops first aid skills into complete incident management.
